Trail Workdays

Workday Preparation

When you come out for a trail workday, be prepared for the conditions and a good hike. Some volunteers bring a change of clothes, especially during the hot summer months. In cooler weather, dress in multiple thin layers to better regulate your temperature. When it is dry, we usually do a group ride after the trail work is done (and sometimes one before as well). So bring your bike gear. CAMBr will be able to supply you with any hand tools needed. Remember to not over-exert yourself in extreme heat, use tools safely, and only use tools you are comfortable with. One thing to be careful of is poison ivy, though simple precautions will protect you most of the time.

The important stuff:
• Insect repellant
• Leather work gloves
• Hard-soled boots
• Long pants (Protection from ticks)
• Hat (Protection from branch tips and thorns)
• Protective eyewear (Protection from branch tips and thorns)
• Hydration pack (water bottles get lost)
• Hooded raincoat (if the forecast dictates)

And don't forget that every volunteer working in the Cook County preserves must sign an annual waiver.

Googlemaps Link to Workday parking if you get there prior to 9am All tools and Lunch will be provided. Bring your own gloves, water, bugspray and a bike work the ride afterwards. After 9am we will be parked along the road by dynamite road trailhead. Limited parking is available as such we usually pile into cars and drive to the work area.

2012 CAMBr - West Workdays

2012-03-18	Saw Wee Kee workday	Spring riding could be off to a nice start, so help us fix a few problem spots before the season really gets going. Prelim plans call for addressing a couple spots: on Anaconda, Coney Island, and at the trailhead by the 2nd lot. Get to the 2nd lot by 9am and we'll dive into it. If the weather's nice expect a ride afterwards.
2012-03-31	Saw Wee Kee workday	Gotta do some tweaks to Dominator, and fix the 1st water crossing on Jack Rabbit. Meet @ the 2nd lot by 9am. If you need to fill out the volunteer paperwork, come a little early to get it out of the way. See you Saturday!
2012-04-07	PBP workday 1pm	Come help out with the reconstruction of the pump track. We will be doing some resurfacing to the existing portion of the track as well as laying the footwork for the extension. Jumps always need TLC and there will be a fair number of stones to move for the new rock garden. See you there!
2012-05-05	Saw Wee Kee Trail Workday	Join us @ 9am for some needed trailwork. Food, Niner and Specialized demo bikes and trailwork. Throw in some good weather and it'll be a day to remember.
2012-05-13	Saw Wee Kee workday	Other events at the park prevent this workday from going on. This date will be pushed back a week.
2012-05-20	Saw Wee Kee Workday	Rescheduled 5-13-12 date. Meet at the 1st lot by 9am. We'll be trimming Kentucky Rumbler to get it ready for the season. We could use your help so plan to be there.
