Does anyone ever ride the trail from Gompers park along the Chicago river up to north of central avenue? There is a decent trail in there.  I just discovered it but it is s nice ride for somewhere so close to the city.

Is that area that bad? I work too far from home now, and was thinking about moving to the city. Is that sector bad? I know nothing about the area. I'd like to be near some trails for some desperate weekday rides. Some areas to the south east aren't too bad. Ravenswood, and north of Roscoe Village. North Center neighborhood. You could bike to the trails from there. I see golf courses along the trail system.

This area is not bad at all. I might be a little worried after dark ESP on Friday or sat nights but I've never seen any thing to be alarmed about.  It's a nice ride. Maybe 3 miles each way.

I'm moving to the Irving Park neighborhood in a few weeks.

I def plan on riding these trails whenever, so post up if you're near by.

Looks like The Garden is only a few block from me, so I might pony up and buy a dj bike. See if I can go pro.

I just checked out the single track in Indian Trail Woods, and was pleasantly surprised. Fun stuff for being in the city, and a decent amount of it too. I don't think I'd go out of my way to ride there, but well worth if close by. Even some technical stuff here and there. Lots of trails spiderwebing off, on both sides of the river. The woods aren't sketchy at all. Very nice and clean. A good amount of hikers walking around, since there are picnic areas backing up to these woods. Trails are nice, and in great shape. I would compare it to Knock Knolls, but has more fun technical features. The roads and old railroad crossings provide some nice rocky steep, (but short) climbs and shoots. In general the trails have a nice mellow roller coaster effect. You can really open up on them. The natural river seems to have carved some minor elevation change, so it's not nearly as flat as Knoch Knolls. I'd say 6 miles of trail, but there's probably more if you explore every trail that spiderwebs out from the main.

Of course, I'm talking about hiking them. MTB'ing is not endorsed there, (surprised it's not).

There are a lot of great spots to hike in Cook County.  If you hike at power walking speed sometimes you can catch some air.

Indeed! I was getting my hip wiggle going pretty awesome, and got a good 2"-3" of air on a few of'em.
