Hello everyone in CAMBr land. This is your 2011 Meltdown volunteer coordinator.
The 2011 Meltdown race is only 3 months away and we need your help to make it run smoothly. So if you have time on the day of the race please volunteer and help us run this event for everyone. I know one of the confusing things last year was for the people who raced. Yes Virginia, you can both race and volunteer to help run the race. In fact, as a bonus those who work the day of the race and race will get their registration fee back after the race! Just make sure I know what category you are racing in and I will be sure you are not working during your race.
Among the exciting jobs opportunities for 2011: - Cheering on the racers at exotic spots in lovely Palos, AKA course marshal - Helping out at the starting line to get racers staged for the start - Yelling at racers from other categories who get too near the finish line - For the wannabe police among us standing at the entrance and not letting people in - Eating donuts at sunrise while setting up all the tents we need - Working registration - Being the face of CAMBr at our very own CAMBr membership drive tent
If any of these sound like something you would like to do then let me know. Looking forwards to working with all of you to make this the biggest and bestest Meltdown ever!

I'll volunteer to be a course marshall on Three Ravines during the sport race it that works for you. Did it for all three races last year but would prefer to work around the start finish for the expert race. Thanks.

Scott, My preference would be a course marshall for the Citizen and Sport races at intersection #12 per this map: http://cambr.org/TrailGuides/guideElements/maps/Palos2010Map.pdfOr any other location is which shady and not too far from the start/finish as I will be racing Comp later that day. I may be around to help setting up some things in the morning as well

Thank you for volunteering everyone. Keith, are you racing or just working? Joe, let me know if you are racing and I will make sure I get you into something so you can race. John, I don't see a problem with either of your requests. Stan is going to run the marshalls and I will make sure I let him know where and when you want to be on the course. Just remember though, Jerry can be grumpy up at the start/finish line! Mike, we still have not finalized how many marshalls or their spots yet but I will make sure that Stan knows where you would like to be.

I'll help for sure. I'm thinking it would be cool to be on the course somewhere, but I'll do whatever is needed most.
I will also be racing, just not sure what category, probably beginner....I don't even know what they are to be honest.

Alanna and I will be there to help and race. We're gonna race novice or sport this year. Havn't decided yet.
I'm down to course marshall somewhere, i liked bottom of ho-chi-minh last year. Alanna can help out at the tents up top or whatever.
FYI- we need a beer sponsor for this event bad. Two Bros. is prolly out. Let's get together and come up with a game plan for garnering support. I'm thinking revolution brewery maybe?

LunaR ? its not like we're not best friends with the owner or anything...... I think Revs a good idea. Finches on the northside?? 3 Floyds, thats like extreme east Illinois? BTW, I can volunteer for the event in August, very slim chance Ill be at any competition level....mentally or physically....

I would like to volunteer. I don't think I will be racing. There is a chance I am doing a Triathlon that day but it isn't set in stone. If I do that, I will let you know.
Also, we had beer sponsors in the past which was awesome. One year we had a distributor of Miller products and one year we had Half-Acre. We did have goose island but they didn't have beer that wasn't in bottles so we just got gift cards from them which is cool too. That was a couple years ago but it was much appreciated and a lot of fun.

Thank you one and all for volunteering. As the time gets closer I will have a better idea of how many people we need for each job. I'll get more info out as it becomes available.

Just wanted to bump this back to the top to keep up the volunteer drive.
I also wanted to remind everyone that if you race and work that day your registration fee will be refunded!
Plus I hear that there is going to be free food for the volunteers. A veritable smorgasbord. Ok, so cold cut sandwiches.
