I have a trunk rack and am always worried somebody will steal it. Thule and Yakima both make security straps that sell for 20-30 dollars. Here is my low cost alternative that does the same thing. I took a seat leash ($3-6.00) and went to home depot to buy 1 1/2" pvc male and femal pipe couplings ($.75-$1.25). Thread the leash around your bottom support and then put the seat leash loop over the male coupling. Screw the female piece down over the male and seat leash loop.  When you need to put the rack on your vehicle, pop the trunk open a few inches, place the pvc unit inside and make sure the trunk closes securely. This does the same thing as the passive lock straps and you just saved at least $15.00.
I cant post pics from the ipad so ill post them in a sec from a PC.
Next, Im working on inventing cold fusion.

Nice work!  I needed those trunk straps because my hatch wouldn't use the hooks - so I had to use the alternative straps that closes the hatch over the strap ends.  I wish I'd thought of your solution to save a few bucks!
