Some pre ride course notes 1st half. (novice perspective - with improved comments 8/12)

First off, its going to be a fun but challenging course. Eyes up and alot of balance is needed in the singletrack.

I started off at the wolf road parking "cut back" (basically 19, up to 20) .  First, look out for the 2 park benches before 19, along the ladies ride-out parking lot...unless they get moved. There is a deep channel or rut in this single track, watch your balance.  The widetrack up to 20 is slippery gravel.   need to pick a line.  You can get surprised.  This is actually the very end of Novice course....so hopefully you will be hammering this out with remaining energy.

20-23 is straightforward. (this would be the first section to hit after the prologue around the lake ) Alot of ground can be made up here.   Once you are on the dilapitated and nuclear eroded road towards Turf,  (this is 13-14)  too much speed here and you will miss the enterance to Turf - there is room to the right to make a hard left into Turfs singletrack.

Once into Turf, you know it.    - its gonna be tacky almost all the way thru.  a few mud spots.  lots of roots.  really good work by the trail workers to lay down some stone patches and drainage - totally paid off. THANK YOU GUYS AND GALS  Careful, they are new and loose in some sections.   The race may even shift them with many riders going over them.

It started to get dark into Psycho path. (and I got scared...too.)   About the same situ - its tacky.  Psycho gets a bit more canopy so its got some extra mud spots cuz it wont get the sun and air.

Looking up, awesome moon and clouds BTW,.......

Once I hit 15, I didnt want to go to 16 and get pinned down after sunset.....so I met up with a couple of guys, one with a flat from Turf and headed back. (beware - again, Turf has alot of sharp obstacles so keep your eyes up)
Tomorrow Ill try and post some notes on the other part of the course - the 2nd half!!!   3Ravines thru GravCav.
