Latest PallosTrail Conditions

The home page's trail status is updated as info comes to us. If you've been out and know the conditions here or the home page's trail status are not current, post up with what you found. We'll take care of updating the home page.

Keep in mind that after any substantial rain the trails will need at least 2 warm sunny days to dry out. Give the trails time to dry before heading out, both for the sake of avoiding unnecessary damage and not creating lots of extra maintenance work for the volunteers who generously pitch in to give all of us a great ride.

Also, since the fast-growing honeysuckle and buckthorn obscures sight lines at corners, there is a greater risk of collisions. Call out your presence at blind turns or before dropping into a ravine. If you feel a maintenance job is getting overlooked, we would welcome your participation at a trail workday. More bodies makes shorter work of the to-do list.

Conditions guidelines:
Noting downed trees, ride-related damage, trail surface conditions or water/flooding - GOOD

Guessing on weather, trail surface condition, or what's out there - BAD

Discussing anything other that current conditions, including complaining about other trail users - also BAD. Start a new thread if you need to.

Keeping it short and to the point - ALWAYS GOOD!

Reports will be removed after 5 days.

Multi Track was nice and dry yesterday afternoon.  Rode quite a bit on my CX bike and ran into minimal wet spots.  The ruts from water running down some of the multi track are huge and some were almost a foot deep!  Walked about 30 feet out on Out and Back and it was super muddy.

Still lots of standing water in the Triangle.    There is really bad runoff erosion at the bottom of Gravity and the top of Dynamite.  XX is solid and ready to take abuse.

Good to go, ride and help pound down the ruts and ride straight thru the mud holes.

I got to staging and saw several very muddy bikes.  Decided to hit the XX  and Canal, which are both in great shape.

I heard Maple East is really not ridable.

Rode the orange loop counterclockwise today, cut back toward pipeline instead of heading through the ravines. Overall pretty good. Some soft spots on Turf and Psycho, but only one is really bad. It's about a 15 foot section around a corner about halfway up the big hill on Psycho. At the top of Pipeline, there are some branches crossing the trail making for an evil surprise when you're going a bit quick off the pavement. Pipeline also has a couple larger soft spots in the low areas.

Out 'n Back is still pretty bad. Turned back halfway through after taking the western entrance. There's a log across the path a little bit through. Not sure if that's a new feature, damage or hooligans. Either way, it's there and kind of fun.

I'd lean towards "more than likely."  I ran the Swallow Cliff singletrack today, and the tread was solid.  Palos should be good to go.

Trails are great, but the mosquitoes are in full force. A few over the weekend, last few days they are awful. Must of been a major hatch from The Flood of '13 and warmer temps recently. You have been warned.
