As most have been finding out, the XX trail extension will be technical and challenging.  What most don't know is the Canal Trail will also be extended the same distance as the XX trail.   The trail crew is trying to add new trail for all to ride.  The new Canal section has already been cleared to near its end.  It will take more time to complete the new XX section and all workday help is greatly appreciated.

I love new trail and I can't explain how much I love XX.  I don't think I have ever been so excited about a new piece of trail in Palos.  I loved it the first time I rode it and enjoy it more evertime I can get a little more speed out of it.  Besides being fast and flowy it has so many tricky lines that it going to take forever to get dialed in.  The new extention looks like its going to be even better.  Great Job everyone, special thanks to Steve and Stan.  See you all at the work days.

Fast and flowy? With all due respect, are you sure you were on the right trail?

I agree with the "fast and flowy" description of the XX trail... the second piece may slow things down a little.

The original XX can be ridden with a good amount of speed and you have to have good flow to keep that speed.

Its gonna require some good spoke tension and a low seat post......but HT, FS, Rigid, Single, DJ, BMX should all be capable 2 wheel weapons on the extension if we keep our imagination at the level its been at over the last few workdays.

I guess I need to revisit XX. Maybe it was still rough around the edges when I sampled it last year, but I remeber it being more rocky and technical then the rest of Palos.

John, you remember it correctly!

But it does have a well treaded in line now.  Still more technical. but not as hard as it was when it was new.

I have a general question about XX. When you ride XX do you usually ride straight thru to the canal trail, or do you ride out then turn around and come back? I ask because I'm not a big fan of riding along side the main road that the canal trail spits you out on. Or is there some other connecting trail that I just missed? Thanks

Awesome work!  New pump track section and rock gardens look great and looks like people will be able to get some air off the last roller and drop.  When can we start riding it?

It wont be officially open until all of the construction is done. Its going to have two loops at the end, both fun but very different. We have people working on it almost every weekday, plus we are starting Thursday evening workdays this week. Sunday is an other workday, I encourage everyone to come out and be part of Palos mountain biking history.

Fast, flowy, AND technical! Rode a couple of times yesterday and it is much better packed down on the non-rocky sections now.

I second the Dynamite road approach, both down and up; I really don't like the street there. Up Dynamite really isn't that bad at all, if you don't mind some rocks.
