I'm in too.  First time doing trailwork here. Anything out of the ordinary I should bring?

Also, I was thinking of riding before hand.  The trail conditions say closed, but it's well below freezing overnight and I'd be riding from 7am-9am when the weather says it will be about 28 degrees.  Has anyone been out recently with intel as whether it would be ridable before trailwork?

thanks

I'm in.  I will bring two growlers of home-made beer.  One Bell's Two Hearted clone IPA and one supposed-to-be-a-Belgian-but-the-yeast-failed-me beer at 8.6 % ABV.

Where exactly is the boat launch?  The parking lot near the east end of XX?

You bring that and I'll bring some Willette bourbon.

It'll be my first trail day too.  I'm tired of being cooped up, so I might as well contribute something functional.  Here's the Cambr rundown:

When you come out for a trail workday, be prepared for the conditions and a good hike. Some volunteers bring a change of clothes, especially during the hot summer months. In cooler weather, dress in multiple thin layers to better regulate your temperature. When it is dry, we usually do a group ride after the trail work is done (and sometimes one before as well). So bring your bike gear. CAMBr will be able to supply you with any hand tools needed. Remember to not over-exert yourself in extreme heat, use tools safely, and only use tools you are comfortable with. One thing to be careful of is poison ivy, though simple precautions will protect you most of the time.

The important stuff:
• Insect repellant
• Leather work gloves
• Hard-soled boots
• Long pants (Protection from ticks)
• Hat (Protection from branch tips and thorns)
• Protective eyewear (Protection from branch tips and thorns)
• Hydration pack (water bottles get lost)
• Hooded raincoat (if the forecast dictates)

And don't forget that every volunteer working in the Cook County preserves must sign an annual waiver.

Another great workday everyone!  Great turnout for the 3rd workday in a row and a lot of good work being done.  The extension of the XX trail looks great and will be an awesome trail to ride.  The tread is starting to shape up and the armoring that Rick and the crew has done is simply awesome!  Thank you to everyone that showed up and if you have any questions about what is being done please showup and see what is going on!  The crew is more than happy to answer any questions about what is going to to make the trails we all love to ride better!
