Hello my fellow CAMBr forumites!  It is once again closing in on that time of year where we need your help to run the Meltdown.  Please contact me via PM to tell me if you can come out and help on the 5th.  We had a great turnout last year which lead to a great race considering the weather we had so let's see if we can do even better then last year!

As a change this year I am going to be looking for people to help coordinate things on the day of the race to try and make things go more smoothly.  So let me know if you are interested in being in charge of any specific jobs during the race.  Sorry Marcin, official beer taster job has already been spoken for!  Maybe you can do pizza taster?

Hey guys. I'm interested in volunteering, but I also wanted to race. This will be my first Meltdown experience, both racing and volunteering. Is it possible to do both?  How would it work?

Yes, just let them know what race you want to participate in and they will schedule activities for you before and/or after your race.

I'll actually be in town for the race this year. I'll be racing sport and as long as I don't get a spousal veto will be up for a little volunteering too.

Tim is right Justin.  Just let me know what class you are racing and when you want to be available and I will fit you in the schedule.

I also wanted to remind people that the race is a short three months away.  Some things to remember about how volunteering helps CAMBr South build and maintain the trails we all love to ride at Palos.  How you may ask?  Well let me tell you.  The Meltdown is the biggest source of fund raising which allows the purchase of tools and other things that are needed to build and maintain the above trails.  So please help us to keep adding new trail and keep the ones we have in top shape so that everyone can enjoy them!  Look forward to hearing from everyone who wants to help.  If anyone is interested in owning the parking lot this year let me know.

John,
I have heard you say this for years so I figured I'd ought to chime in early to get a slot.  I'll have my camera with as well so lots of good action shots I bet...

would like to keep this volunteer attitude going now that were in 3 month crunch-time.   Some areas may need volunteer assistance based on last year are the following:

Help with on site Registration Table  (involves collecting money, running PC and rather important stuff)
Sign In Table (this usually needs to most help early - ALOT of folks signing in and picking up their schwag bags)
Parking assist - the most thankless, get treated like crap volunteer assignment you could have, but you get special thanks.
Course Marshall - folks with race experience, trail experience, walkie talkie and first aid experience are ideal candidates  also snapping extra photos and cheering friends on.
CAMBr tent - This is where raffle tix and door prizes and shirts get handed out or sold,  This is good for people with a LOUD MOUTH (like me)
pre race day volunteers - a few days before, volunteers are needed to help get the course in great shape and prepare grasslands
Race Pre-workers - in case the course needs attention last minute - these are last minute heroics that often save the day.
Kids race volunteers - can never have too much help with the kids to make it fun and safe for them
Post race breakdown - alot of work with tents and tables and garbage wrangling etc.

dont be afraid to race and help, everyone should do both if possible.

Right now there's a 90% chance I'll be in Chicago from the end of July thru mid August.  If so, I'd like to volunteer!  I'll no more within the next week, so I'll be sure to keep the board posted.

I am in as a volunteer.  I will likely be racing novice so I can course marshal the other races or work the finish line (did both last year).  I would also be willing to try a new job if you need volunteers elsewhere.

I'm in for helping as well, as long as work doesn't interfere (it's ruining my life lately).   I don't think I'll be racing this year, but we'll see.  If I do it will probably be beginner just for fun.

Thank you to all that have volunteered so far.

Two months until the race and we still need plenty of people to come out and help so do not be shy.
