I have been out of the sport for a solid eight years, and I wanted to dip my toes back in to see if it sticks. It's a little premature to buy something big and fancy--but at the same time my past experience won't let me accept a crap bike. That, and a cheapo walmart bike will probably drive me away from biking faster than anything.

I am looking for something around a 17" hardtail for around $300. Is there anyone out there that could help me out?
