Sounds like your typical uninformed NIMBY response full of everything except facts.

Just an FYI - some women from the "Batavia Women's Club" are leading up this outcry. It might be beneficial to sit down and actually talk to this group before they put more uninformed thoughts into the public eye. They have been going around to meetings of the different groups around town and spreading these rumors, asking them to join up to fight in their "cause". I'm sure that this is something that CAMBR has seen before from other active groups and we could quell some of the hostility toward this new trail area by relaying the actual practices that we employ as trail builders/maintainers to their club/members. This, as opposed to them spouting out the outlandish claims that we wreak havoc to the wilderness by building/maintaining trails. Currently that area is not well maintained and there is a big problem with people utilizing the area in ways that are not congruent to CAMBR's views (installing plywood jumps, building unauthorized trails, not to mention the other acts by outsiders that should not be mentioned). CAMBR could actually help maintain the area as there are quite a few members that live very close to the tri-city area that I'm sure would be willing to volunteer. It is disappointing to see how uninformed local groups can get when anything is mentioned about changing an area that is currently off limits, and is being underutilized.

Thanks for keeping your ear to the ground. We are working on it. This was not unexpected as there is always a fear of the the unknown. What CAMBr brings to the table is a sustainable and well maintained multi-user trail system, which is something they do not have today. Our ability to explain the benefits and educate the public is our greatest strength. But we need everyone in CAMBr to speak positively about sustainable trail building each time you have a willing listener. Make them aware that we build trails for all users, not just mountain bikers.
Thanks for your help, Jerry

2000 people a day? Is she confusing mountain biking with the Taste of Chicago?

If you read the comments, apparently this 2,000 mountain bikers claim came from Matt Knowles. I'm not sure how accurate that claim is, however.

If they want to keep it natural they should remove all man-made structures, fence the area in, and reintroduce bison, wolves, and black bears .

I dont want trails that "are wide enough for riders and fans to cheer them on" WTF?? I have no problem volunteering time, sweat to help get sustainable, international quality multi use, single track trails or even some downhill -esque trails since there is a hill -o- $#!* on-premises already..... My vote would be to "keep it all on the $#!*-pile."

Interesting quote on their front page!
“The clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness." John Muir
Have they seen the Mountain Biking Trails in Kettle Moraine, WI (The John Muir trail)!

I am a causal mountain biker. Nonetheless, I have to agree that converting this forest into a biking area will not be in the best interest of the Kane County Forest Preserve. I have driven down to the Palos Hills area to bike only to find that the trails were temporarily closed because bikers were not adhering to the rules. Erosion was becoming a real problem. From the comments on http://forlandssake.orgA.) What is a "causal" mtb'er? B.) Love the logic that the trails are closed BECAUSE of erosion, not to prevent erosion.
