directional trails

For anyone who has not been to Kettle, the trails are one way for cyclists and the opposite for hikers.

Kettle is by far my favorite trail system around this area. Palos is fun and all but the trails are terribly marked (if at all) and the creepiness in the parking lots is annoying. I'd gladly pay $4 to get in to ride if it meant not dealing with that.

Regarding the trail names, I think it would help newer folks immensely if we had a new map that had color codes with fewer names.

If someone said to meet on yellow, where would you go?  I think less names but more mile markers or ways to drill down to the exact location would be helpful and this could be in conjunction with the maps provide to EMS, so we are all speaking the same language.

On Trail signage has been discussed here on this board for years now... what is the issue or rather what is the obstacle that is preventing this from happening?

I for one would not like to see more signage on trails. I got lost the first time I rode SWK, but it wasn't bad enough to warrent ugly signs everywhere.

I agree. I already refer to the trails in the same manner because I can't remember the names of each section. Give a long trail a name and then add numbered intersection markers if we want to talk about specific sectors.

I think direction specific trails are extremely important and much safer.  The only time 2 way single track should exist is if it doesnt return you to a trail head, in which the trail should accommodate passsing zones, etc.  I hate when i find a new trail system that has a maze of legs and intersections.  Sure, you can "create" your own route, but that IMO should have been established when the trail was built in the first place.  Ad-one legs to improve the system can be built if the old leg is either marked or shut down....... IMO.  I'm also more a freerider though, so I always believe the correct trail direction is the one that starts at the highest elevation and ends at the lowest

I like not being forced to ride the trails in one direction. I've gotten used to riding everything @palos and swk both ways. You can get in twice the amount of mileage without hitting the same thing twice.

I'm not one to ever know the names of trails so it's hard for me to keep track of whether I'm riding "Devil's Taint" or "Sack Twister"
