Yea BikeBot, that's a great track from a phone. The biggest thing is that phone (whatever it is) has a modern GPS receiver and that it's pointed up toward the sky, unobstructed.  But yes, keeping a phone in that position is dangerous.  But, phones in pockets will provide much worse tracks than those facing upwards towards the sky.

Sorry about your frame cracking... but is that a vintage GT RTS you're riding?!

Sorry to hear about the frame.

Hope you can get that resolved and get out again with us soon.

Yep, its a GT RTS-2.  I'm the original owner from the mid-90's.  It's got a couple vintage aftermarket parts like Onza H.O. brakes, Pulstar hubs (purple!), WTB dual compound brake pads, and Mag 21 fork.  I rebuilt the fork and re-cabled it last fall after I cleaned out the fossilized Shimano grease from the shifters.

I pulled the crank and lo and behold there is a similar crack (although smaller) in the same place on the drive side.  Even if I can get it welded up, I would probably retire it to leisurely road duty.

If you push hard enough, you might be able to get a warranty frame out of GT for cheap. I just got done doing that with my old avalanche and you saw my new zaskar at the ride last night. Got it stupid cheap...

Wow an RTS-2!  You should have been keeping that preserved as a classic and hung it up in your garage.  I would keep it and just get a new bike--not trade it in to save a couple hundred (maybe) on a warranty frame. Very cool that those things are still around.  The RTS and LTS were game changers (more so the LTS) back in the day.
