I went hiking today at Veteran acres for the first time in about a year and all the multi use single track is in awesome shape. Does someone know if there is a group that is maintaining the trails now? most everything was trimmed, fallen trees were cleared with a chain saw. Some multi use single track was marked with trail signs.

Those trails are illegal for bikes. Should probably leave it at that.

Yes there is. A trail ultra running group. They even got a permit to hold a recent 50k running race there. But yeah MTB not legal on ST. Not sure about the trail signs on the ST, didn't see any when I ran/hiked there a few months ago (plenty of signage during the race but that was removed after per permit rules)

I called the Crystal Lake park district and Conservancy both said the trails were multi-use and open to MTB's I entered at Veterans Acres you ride down past the Rotary building and stay left you will see the trail entrance no markings on that side but I road through to Sterns Woods and as you enter its clearly marked red/yellow trails for both bicycling and hiking the rules for bicycles are also clearly marked.

I did notice that if you parked in Sterns Woods there is no markings the big sign with the trail markings and rules is back in a ways were Sterns and Veterans connect.

I think I did about 7 miles total but not sure I didn't overlook a trail, some single track and steep up and down but for the most part maybe just a bit easier than a yellow trail at Palos but was still fun.
