so my question still seems to be unanswered: how practical is it for quick tire swaps such as when you arrive at a race and you need to change tire to something else that better suits the conditions? Can this be done quickly or will I need tape, fluid and other crap that will take hour to do?
Right now I just pop the tire off, put the new one on, inflate and ride. 10min job maximum.
Tubless is awesome. Most of the time my bike is set up tubless. But I wouldn't bother switching tubless tires before a race. Sometimes they burp and loose a bunch of air if the bead dosn't seat perfectly the first time. Sometimes the tire dosn't inflate well without a compressor. Sometimes setting up a tubless tire takes a long time.
I wouldn't want to deal with any of that before a race. Personally, I show up to a race with my bike ready to race. But theres only one way to find out right? I'd practice a bunch before I tried it on race day.
