Thanks Chris & Donny for making it out for the 1st time to ride with us and to all the regulars that are there every week. It was good that the heavy rain from Thursday AM let up and the trails were good to go, even the 2 short single track sections. With the days getting shorter we are going to start meeting up at 6pm again. I'll miss the long days but not the 100 degree weather we had all summer!

I might try and make it tonight... had a nice hand slap crash on the dirt last night there and my palm is all swollen and the wrist is sore along with a numb pinky.  New start time is now 6pm?

We meet in the West Parking lot closest to Dundee Rd. & Northwest Hwy (Rt. 14) in Palatine. We head out on the yellow loop by 6:10pm now that the days are getting shorter and ride clockwise so if you arrive late head counterclockwise or wait for us to finish the 1st lap.

This is a 1-3 lap ride on a crushed gravel surface. It's hilly, twisty and fun for getting in some cardio between single track rides. This is a 6 mile gravel loop with 2 very short single track sections. Feel free to ride with us for 1, 2 or 3 laps. We run out of daylight by the end of lap 3. Like Us on Facebook so you get the reminder each week for this ride and any other group rides we do.

All skill levels are welcome. When we get a larger turnout which we usually do, we split into a faster group and a beginner group. We look forward to riding with you!

Great turnout tonight for our DG ride. Joe took the picture and 2 other riders were not in the pic for some reason. So 15 came out for the ride. Good times!

I have volunteered to be the Marketing Director for CAMBr North. Elections are taking place now. Nothing will change with NW MTB. Most of what I do there feeds into CAMBr in some way. Like encouraging people to ride, then join CAMBr and even go on to participate in the Meltdown, a CAMBr event. When you go to the NW MTB web site it explains that joining our group is free but becoming a member of CAMBr is encouraged. The trails don't build themselves

Your vote shows that you support me in this role.

Thank You!

We had a good turnout for the ride tonight. Eugene, Garrett, Donny, JT, Jack and Brian met up for the ride. I heard Len was flying around the loop but I had to head home before we crossed paths. I am going to start bringing my headlight with me. The sun sets so fast now. After DST the new ride time would have to be 3pm to get an hour in before dark

Yes, I was there tearing it up from 5:00 til dark.
I had a couple of fast guys ride with me for a little while too! (Didn't catch their names though, they were on 'cross bikes, and did more panting than talking, lol!)
I'll bring my headlight with me, next time I can make it to a ride again.

"Do The Rock" is a race in Rockford coming up. From the description of the trails there at Rock Cut State Park it sounds like Deer Grove with a little more single track. For those of you that ride with us on Thursday night and have been thinking about trying a race on October 21st this would be perfect. 1 lap = 10 miles and there are 1, 2 and 3 lap races. Here's the thread:

With the days getting shorter and shorter our Thursday night ride at DG is coming to an end for 2012. With DST coming up we would have to start riding at 3pm to be out of there by sundown!

When I started this weekly ride I had no idea how it would turn out. I made so many new friends from this ride. It motivated us to get on our bikes and ride, no excuses! It was awesome to see people that struggled to complete a lap at 1st go on to complete multiple laps after a few weeks. All of us improved our endurance while having a great time hanging out with people who share our love of riding. No better way to exercise than that!

We had 5 or 6 people from our ride give the Meltdown a try for the 1st time which was great. So many people that ride never actually try a race. If you didn't race at all this year make sure you sign up for at least 1 in 2013. It is an experience you will never forget.

Thank you to Jack, Joe, Len, JT, Brad, Rob, John, Susan, Damien, Dominick, Tim, Ryan, Mike, Linda, Tom, Donny, Kristen, Chris, Garrett, Norm, Joe and a few more that I am missing, who came out to ride with us at Deer Grove in 2012. We will do this again in 2013!

Thank You!

Brian

Good stuff, Brian!  Yeah, the Thursday night DG rides were a good time, even though I made it to only few, and already late in the season.  But I got to meet and ride with a bunch of cool new people, and even a familiar face from the past.  Anyway, I'm already looking forward to riding in 2013!  And by the way things are looking, we'll have some new places to ride, too!
