Hey. Don't get me wrong about the connector trails. I enjoy them on occasion.  The skinnies and terrain in most areas is real cool. But I tend to go to Kettles on my way up to the cabin up North so I selectively pick my trails and the connector drag me down too much with the time constraints. Sucks getting old with crap for lungs. (Am I whining again?)

Maybe in Fall I'll try the RSS20 for giggles.

let me know. i have my newly built but never ridden el mariachi in the garage. hopefully by the fall ill be able to ride again.

totally understand about time constraints. That's cool that you have a cabin up there so the drive serves more of a purpose than just driving to ride a bike. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just complain cause I'd rather have more time in the saddle than behind the wheel. Probably why I only make it out to palos, I mean kettle a couple times a year.
but the real issue is that I'm jealous of all of you who ride out there quite a bit more than me

If it makes you feel any better, Monday the23rd after the Adams Co. Triathlon is when I'll do my first Kettle ride of the year. I'll be the guy with the Raleigh  road bike, Access RSS26 32X 17 and the 1981 Hutch Pro RSS20  44X16. It will be good to get back to work to get some rest on Tuesday.

Quick update, I've been to Kettle Moraine twice now, first a couple weeks ago and today. The biggest surprise is how massive the park is. On my first visit there with my brother we rode John Muir exclusively and rode the lower half of the Muir trail map for about 2.5 hrs (usually we ride for about 2 hrs at Palos) and while it was technical and fun, that day I didn't buy a season pass and was really on the fence about returning this season. We then rode at Palos for a couple weeks again until returning today.

The commute was around an hour or so (much quicker and easier than getting to Palos) and we were greeted by a park ranger. I opted to get the season passes today and glad I did so. Today we set out getting to the Emma Carlin trailhead but called it quits when we got to the Tamarack Rd intersection, (which is about halfway to the connector to EC). The upper half of the Muir trails along with the connector seemed endless today, along with the change of scenery and quite a bit of sandy trails. We rode for about 3.5 hrs and can't wait to return Sunday and park at Emma Carlin lol and start from there.

It's been a couple years since I've been to Kettle. It's fun reading about it again. Don't they have a skills area now? How is it?

That's what I'm hoping to find next time in the Emma Carlin section of the park as I didn't find anything so far.

The skills area is at john Muir. Right by the parking lot. Just take the wooden bridge.

So that's where it is, I've always started at the parking lot but headed to the left. Always skipped the bridge. I'll definitely check it out this week!

Rode there last Monday. Took orange (5 Mile) and Blue (10 mile) then decided to drove to E C. good choice. Climbed everything on the RSS, but my free hub started failing with 2 miles to go. Fortunately I didn't;t have to walk any.

Just came back today from riding Emma Carlin today for the first time. It was awesome, lots of climbing (I came here after riding JM for 90 minutes) and did the big loop from the parking lot to the overlook point and the ride back was awesome. The downhill was a nice surprise.

Any idea of the elevation change at the overlook point?

Here is a GPS track of the Full Monty... I am sure if you play around you can figure out the elevation, etc... I did the longer, outer loop at EC which has the gnarly gravel climb.
