I've been riding palos for about 10 years, and I don't understand why so many horses are allowed to sh*t all over the trails! If I am walking my dogs on the trail and they went all over the trail, I would be extremely disrespectful to not clean it off the trail. agreed? So, why is it that 6 horses can create 10 times the waste my dogs would, and no one even thinks of cleaning the trail? or holds the horse owners responsible? I like horses, just not on our mtn bike trails. I know their multi-use and we have to share, but every time I've seen a horse rider, they act offended, like I'm in their way. The amount of bikers is way more than horse riders, cant they go somewhere else? or at least show some respect?

Dog feces and horse manure are vastly different!

Dogs are carnivores, horses are herbivores. Horse manure is primarily undigestable bits of hay and grain which quickly breaks down. Dog feces is riddled with bacteria. Further, horse manure is so nontoxic that you can put it directly onto your garden, with no worries. The same cannot be said about dog feces.

Also keep in mind horse riders pay (for both themselves and their horse) to use the trails.

I am not sure that equestrians need to pay to ride at Palos... possibly at other destinations.

Trust me, I would know.  Licenses are required for both.

That doesn't work either... because you can still have protein in your diet without meat and being vegan... think beans, legumes, nuts, etc.

Cool...didn't realize that.  Odd that they can enforce this for horses but not bikes... probably a different scenario though.  This now makes sense as to why a majority of the equestrians I have run into feel the trail is theirs> because they are paying to ride there and everyone else isn't.

You should treat it that way for your safety more than anything.  Horses spook easily and people get hurt.  My wife has had several poor encounters with bikers who have not been respectful.  Follow the rules, and everyone goes home happy.

If you eat the horsepoop then you are technically not vegan since it is an animal byproduct.

...we are all talking about eating the poop, right?

Yes, but they should be wearing diapers when on the single-track. We had one rider hit a tree trying to avoid it and an other slide out on a corner. The trails a not wide enough to have them littered. Plus no FPD money goes into building single-track, so as a courtesy and rider safety its something that should be implemented.
