Hey all,
Looking for any riding groups in the Northern Suburbs. I've seen a lot of the groups tend to be south and west. When I do my solo rides a stick to the North Shore Bike Path and the Des Plaines River Trail.
Any information is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hi, I am in the same area - and when I ride offroad I also do the DP river trail - typically around Northbrook and north.  I have heard of a group - VeloClub Roubaix which is primarily a road club, which sometimes does trail rides around Wright woods in the offseason.
Maybe if there is enough interest a group can be started?

I hear ya. Not a lot of great mtb trails on the North Shore.

I usually spend most Thursday evenings with the NW Mtb group out at Deer Grove Forest Preserve in Palatine.  Very nice group with riders of all experience levels.  Ride starts at 6:00 and we meet at the Far West parking lot.

On occasion, I've been riding on the DPRT after work.  It looks like I go from Algonquin Rd to Dundee Rd and back in about 1:28, which is about 22 miles.  Not particularly the most interesting ride.  I also ride from Algonquin Rd to North Ave and back in about 1:28, which is about 23 miles.  Again, not the most interesting ride.

I've heard good things about the NW MTB group, it's just it's too far away for me.

I will often ride the DPRT from home (Long Grove) to the WI border and back with ~ 16-17mph average.  I'll also jump on it in Lincolnshire (on days I have to go into the office in Bannockburn) and head up to the border and back.  Nothing special, just lots of miles at speed with minimal road crossings so it is easy to keep the heart rate up. IMO the NW-MTB DG ride isn't worth it unless you are within a 10 mile radius... but it is worth noting that DG has probably the most narrow multi-track in the entire County which gives is less of a double-track feel.

Deer Grove is pretty far from where I'm at.  I have found that at Wright Woods there are some trails which are a bit more rolling and winding than the DPRT.  though a loop only takes about 10 minutes...the ride up there, then a bunch of loops and then back is a good workout, albeit a bit boring for MTB biking.

I ride in the area but it is usually more street and trials than anything else.  I don't know of any good legal singletrack in area.

I agree however I find that DG has the worst trail surface ever. I'd rather ride fox river trail which is also way closer
