Any recommendation for some good deals on 29er tires? I'm looking for the typical midwest trail tire- nothing overly fat but open to ideas. Thanks!

I ran Maxxis Ardents & ended up warming up to them quite well. I currently run Specialized tires, a Captain up front & Fast Trak in back. Both tires are 2.2 & they are working well.

I am running Specialized Fast Trak's, 2.0 front and back... love them... previously was running Specialized Captain Control's, 2.0 front and back... loved them as well and will probably switch back to them for Winter riding.

Thanks, guys. This helps. I'll have to check around for some decent prices.

I've got a Maxxis Ardent 2.4 up front and a WTB Wolverine Race 2.2 in back. Both were easily mounted tubeless and work great at pressures between 18-22lbs. If you're running suspension the 2.4 might not fit up front though. and I just ate another burrito.

My bad... I just realized you asked for recommendations on where to get a good "deal" on tires... not necessarily a recommendation on what tires.  I'd say, check the Swap N Sell or the FB Palos Page as many will try a certain tire only to find out they don't like it... usually a 2 for 1 deal, like this:

I am running Kenda Slant Six 2.2 up front with Kenda Small Block Eight 2.1 on back and have felt pretty good about the grip at Palos.  For some odd reason, I think I picked it up from motocross quite some time back, I just don't like running matching front and rear.  I'm using them tubeless and had really no problem mounting and getting to seal (except when I over-inflated the rear in my face and popped it off the rim... couldnt hear or get any feeling in my thumb for about 30 minutes).  I picked them up off PricePoint.com when they were running a sale for about $80 shipped.

most of my tire purchases come from HuckNRoll - although you have to wait for some good deals on relevant tires as many of them are still priced rather proud - esp tires with hype.

I just got a set of X Kings in 2.4 / 2.less to put on the new wheelset, and picked up a bunch of 26s since Im still running dry-rotted JonesACs and RacingRaptors.

Machinetwelve is sorta right about the 2.4 Ardent. I had rubbing when I switched from my rigid fork to a springy one. The problem wasn't with the thickness of the tire, it was mainly due to the dish of my wheel being just a little off to one side rather than dead center. I would not be afraid to run the Ardent 2.4 if I were you. I swapped out to the 2.25 in front before switching to the Specialized tires. I always had a 2.25 in back.

As for deals, see what your local shop can do for you, otherwise, look to JensonUSA, Tree Fort, Blueskycycling, Bikeman, etc.

I was looking for both what tires and possibly a good place to get those tires. I'm pretty savvy with google so can try and find a good deal  It's just nice to have some options just in case I run across some decent sales.

Thanks again!
