I managed to squeeze in an amazing fun hour at Ft Custer State Park yesterday in Michigan. Its between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek about 2 2.5 hours from Chicago. Very well marked, in great shape.  Links call it the best place in Michigan. Its the most fun single track Ive ever been on. (However, Ive only been to the north end of Palos.)

The 8 mile red loop is the place to be, very fast, full of flow and amazing well managed single track.  Some features made me gulp and on a slightly wet day I did not attempt the 15 downhill drop on granite into a sharp left on a ridge. One small section was closed.  Only a few really technical areas I think I was forced off once or twice. I did meet a tree trying to keep up with two locals who knew every turn.

Be careful of some sandy areas. Recommend a mask or plan keep you mouth closed as there were a zillion skeeters this time of year. Each pic I took, Id have a dozen on my legs after 5 seconds.

Well worth a day trip IMO. I wish I had more time.

I love Ft. Custer. Sadly, I don't get out there enough.

I love that place as well. very scenic trail system. I'm surprised that the mosquitos were bad this time of year with it being a bit colder. Looks a lot different in the fall than in the summer when I've been there.
