Shimano group: Looking to change my top normal to low normal (rapid rise). Have rapid fire shifters. Do I only need to change the rear deraillier and rework the cables?

I know nothing on this topic but I think a similar discussion is here:

Apparently there's no need to change your shifters -- your rear shifter will just read backwards.  I'm sure someone who knows better will chime in.

I think that most people that go rapid rise end up reverting back. It's a good idea just came in too late.

Do not go with a rapid rise I had two of them and both only lasted about a month.  The spring gave out on both of them making it so I could down shift into higher gears but not back into lower gears.  I had many rides were I had to shift down into the gear I wanted and then get off the bike and move my derailleur by hand.

Thanks for the advise. Reason for the question is my hardtail is already rapid rise and my new full suspension is top normal. Prefer the rapid rise.

......back to the original question. Do I need to change anything more than the rear derailleur and rework the cabling to accomplish this?

Rapid rise works just fine with the shifters you got.  No need to replace them.

yup, the only thing you need to replace is the Deraileur itself. wouldnt happen to need a XTR rapid rise would you?
