We are trying to figure out what we should do for our race at Matthiessen, should we keep the course aprox 3.5miles of tough singletrack or should we add a little over a mile of mostly open prairie singletrack and end up with an aprox 5 mile loop?

I don't know much about racing, but I know that I enjoyed the 3.5 miles of tough singletrack at Matthiessen way more than the open prairie.  YMMV.

I suggest going for the 5 mile loop as long as it includes most of the aforementioned singletrack too.
