We rode the proposed path area on the no-drop ride.
Looks like minimal impact for the singletrack, only some of the woddchip multitrack will become paved.

I'm meeting with the Naperville parks guy tomorow at KK to talk about segment #4 and our work this year and plans for next year.

It is taking out some mult-tract that was not wood chip but rather "dual track" and that is a shame, as I kind of liked that track as a brake from the single track.

I met with John from Naperville parks tonight and we looked at the marked path for section #4.
There will be some tree thinning near the multi track (wood chips) for 'maintenance & safety' and more right at the corner where we gather prior to the no drop rides.
The path is going to be a great year round feature and I'm with John that they are making minimal impact on the woodland for a great multi user adition to Naperville's bike path system.

I saw some men with large trucks and a bobcat out there this morning. It looks like some more work is underway.

The workmen have cut out a fair amount of trees along the multitrack and widened the trail in preparation for the pavement. It's weird to see huge trucks in the middle of the park.

In my inbox tonight from City of Naperville (mentions KK)

DuPage River Trail Closed Weekdays at 87th Street
Closure Related to Construction of Segment 4 of the Trail

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The DuPage River Trail is now closed at 87th Street every weekday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During this time, trail users will be prohibited from entering and exiting the trail at 87th Street. The trail closure is required to allow trucks and equipment to safely enter and exit the construction site for Segment 4 of the DuPage River Trail. Access to the trail is still available at Bailey Road; however, trail users must turn around at 87th Street and travel back to Bailey Road to exit the trail. Trail users are advised to respect all construction signs, fences and barricades.

About the DuPage River Trail Segment 4
The 2.5-mile extension of the regional trail will begin near 87th Street and the West Branch DuPage River, where the existing trail currently stops, and continue south, travelling along Ring Road and Knoch Knolls Road and winding through Knoch Knolls Park and the DuPage River Sports Complex. The path will include two pedestrian bridges: one over a creek south of 87th Street and one over the West Branch DuPage River in Knoch Knolls Park.

The DuPage River trail is designed for non-motorized public use. This nine-mile trail, which was first conceived in a 1992 intergovernmental agreement between the City of Naperville, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Naperville Park District, is being completed gradually in five segments. Once completed, the trail will extend from Burr Oak Park to 115th Street. In 1997, the Naperville City Council affirmed the city's commitment to the completion of the trail when it was officially adopted as part of the city's Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

For more information about Segment 4 of the DuPage River Trail, visit www.naperville.il.us/drt4.aspx. To sign up to receive e-mail updates as the construction progresses, visit www.naperville.il.us/enews.aspx

I rode KK with Wiil and Ben in the fall and loved it. I was disappointed by the paved trail construction as it seemed to ruin the whole south end trails.

The paved path will impact the multi track but should not have touched any of the single track.  We will need to confirm that though once spring comes and the trail is complete.

That is quite true, I forgot about that. I only love the singletrack and massive switchbacks KK has to offer. If KK was in my area, I would ride it daily (trail and weather permitting).

I was at Knoch Knolls yesterday (running, snow not good for biking) and none of the single track is affected by the new paved path - at least going by the plastic borders they have installed for construction. It will affect biking when linking from single to single but not much (good place for speed work)

The new bridge over the river at the parking area off Knoch Knolls Road is in and built/placed over the the river, but still need access steps/ramps. It is a big ugly monster that the neighbors will love looking at. I am sure they could have got something smaller and cheaper!!!!

The last update I got was it was still being worked on.  All the rain has kept me from getting out there recently.

The bridge is in and seems completed, but there seems like small finishing things to be done and it is fenced off.

You can get over the other bridge from KK road parking lot, head west and pick up the silky smooth asphalt right at the south side of the new bridge.

They haven't completed the paving yet.  There is a nice long stretch through the woods but it's gravel going out to the ball fields and through the parking lot for the wooden bridge.  Maybe they are waiting for all of the paving to be done prior to opening the bridge?
