The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3. Its a compact camera that takes 10M stills and AVC-Lite 720p30 video. I'm very pleased with it. It has a wide 25mm lens and an amazing 300mm telephoto with optical image stabilization for a pretty compact camera. I've been wondering if I could mount it to my helmet (for limited shooting rather than hand holding it), but its not really designed for that kind of abuse. Still that may be safer than riding one handed and almost crashing when I try to hop roots...  |

I've never found a free one that I liked, and the one that came with my hi-def camcorder seriously blows. |

I just use iMovie08. I also have Final Cut Express 4.0 but I don't tend to use it as it is a lot more complex. Similarly just like when I used my PC for video editing I had a Pinnacle DV500 on that with Adobe Premiere. Premiere with the Pinnacle addons was pure awesomeness with the capabilities of the software but it was complex to use crashed a lot as a result I rarely ever produced a video. I still have vid from 2000 needing editing.... As a result I like iMovie08. It's severely limited on what you can do, but it is easy to splice together a quick vid. The longest thing this movie took was trying to select the music for it  When I can I will upgrade to iMovie09 for its built in image stabilization routines and its ability to handle the cameras AVC-Lite naively (for now I am recording in MJPEG) but at this point I may as well wait for iMovie10. |

An initial test video showing the connector (yellow), pipeline, dynamite road and canal path. This is one of the boring ones. One thing I notice is that on a helmet the video is harder on the YouTube compressors. this one is a bit choppier that my prior effort. |
