So I'd like to take a 1/2 day at work on Friday and shoot out to the lifts somewhere. Considering Wilmot, Alpine Valley, Cascade.
Where do you all think the best place to go would be considering crowd, distance, price, etc?

There is a log jam event going down at Alpine this Friday, so go there if that is your kinda thing to do or watch. Wilmot is a lot closer than Cascade, and cheaper too.

I can't view that link cuz I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure "Logjammin'" is not my thing. Too bad Ryan's in Colorado. He'd love it.
And for you Lebowski fans, I'll do it:

I am going up to granite peak this weekend sat/sun/mon, never been there, hopefully not too crowded. Might end up watching football for the crowded times, then come back out after I am sauced.

I actually got gift card to granite peak for xmas. I'm saving until February because I'm hoping we (they) will get more snow for some tree skiing. After seeing the weather report for this weekend, it looks like snowboarding is a wash, biking is more likely. 40 degrees is gonna feel VERY warm.

You mean ROAD biking, right, CAB1? because at 40F the singletrack will NOT be rideable, but the snow will be nice and soft, and you never know what the ladies may choose to wear in conditions like that. Spring skiing in January = Good Times. I'm planning to go boarding with my mom and son somewhere this weekend, but I haven't decided where or which day yet.
FWIW, I was at Wilmot last night and the snow was fast, and the park was in great shape. Tons of cool rails, boxes, jumps, and plenty of features that could be enjoyed by people of all ability levels.
...I'm thinking I just may end up back at Wilmot again this weekend.

I have not been to wilmont for years, i just rather drive the extra 45 min to alpine. Did you know wilmont used to be a racetrack?
Anyways, supposed to be a high of 32 degrees and sunny all weekend at granite peak, so perfect conditions in my opinion (well minus the fresh snow)

Yeah I mean road biking. I'm debating going up on Friday still. I don't really enjoy snowboarding when its that warm, just cuz i hate being dripping wet, but you're right, it would probably be fun. I havn't been to Wilmot in years, and from what I remember its VERY small, but perhaps. I'll make the call tomorrow morning.

dripping wet at 40F? sounds like you must sweat more than I remember... or maybe you aren't dressed properly. When I buy snowboarding clothes, I only buy shells, nothing insulated, and I insist on having leg and pit venting, plus my helmet is vented too. This allows for tons of adjustment as to warmth levels. On a 35+ day I would just go with 1 light synthetic base layer under my shell, and maybe consider using my lightweight pipe gloves instead of the usual ones. Ever been out to Lake Tahoe? I can recall some awesome sunny days in the 60's that I managed to be plenty comfortable in.

Yeah I dunno. My gear is decent, but I don't quite have all the fancy stuff. I wear sweatpants, cotton thermal and t-shirt under my jacket. Can't really afford the hi-tech stuff. Also, I have core temp. issues. I'm either running like a furnace or freezing, there's really no in between.
Either way, all I know is that if its above 30 and sunny, I'm not anywhere near as comfortable in the teens or twenties.

the big discomfort was how hot the water in the camelback was getting
Hey Marcin might want to try wearing a bike jersey instead of a cotton thermal
Hmmm. That's a good idea. Will try it out.

Cotton sucks for wicking away moisture. If you sweat, you get cold.
Go to walmart or marshalls, good thermals there for cheap. Also, check snowboarding/ski websites in about a month. Everything will be 50% off.
