They don't plow?  This is sounding more fun all the time!!

They don't.  Parking lot conditions are usually best described as "vehicle-packed powder."

In the main parking lot across the street, if you turn right you head uphill, turning left heads downhill. Going uphill to park is usually the safest since that way you exit heading downhill.  Comes in handy when they get a foot of fresh while you were out on the hill.

Campers park at the top of the hill by the cabins in the lot on the same side of the street as the hill.  This is usually a better and easier spot to exit from.  The traffic is more focused and the snow harder packed as a result.

Oh, and since we are talking about snow and cars, did you notice that my new car is snow colored?  Sweet.

Is that a Forester, or an Outback.  I cant tell.  Does it already come equipped with boxes of granola and a few Barry Obama on the bumper and back window?

It's an Outback.  Yes, granola was included, and I insisted the dealer scrape off the Obama stickers before I agreed to the purchase.

i will get back to you on that. i only used it a few times. it holds 4 pairs of skiis or 2 boards/4 boards if you take bindings off of two of them. i wil bring id sunday if i find it by then

Thanks for the offer, but I had something a little more blingy in mind.  Plus it has an integrated lift, so it isn't necessary to remove the bindings to make it all fit.

The storm that's hitting us here now and for the next two days will be bringing a BIG dump to the Kee.  John Dee is saying 8-15 inches, possibly more with the lake effect that's supposed to hit with the cold air coming in after this storm.  You guys will have plenty of pow pow.

We're rolling north on Saturday...in the snow...slowly.

the red line is quite bothersome for the UP.

You mean the red line on the saturday map? It might not be too bad. A minor thaw will help firm up the base. Then with any luck they could put up to another few inches to a foot on top and if it is a little wet it should bond nicely.

This looks promising too.

this pic looks good

Lure looks like more than the 1-4" John Dee has on his map for "through Friday AM".  Looks like about 6" to me.

i dont know what to say, i just came from northwest suburbs and they already had about 8 inches and it was still falling.  doesnt look like dee's forecast is as solid as usual....
I hate it when he underestimates the snowfall.

Seems everyone was caught off guard. They had been saying 2-4 inches, but just checked again and they said up to 12". The snow around these parts was extra light and fluffy, and 8" seems to be just about what we got.

The sled hill wasn't that great earlier today. It was icy underneath and the snow on top kept sticking to my snowskate. But I just finished waxing it up and I am planning to get in a great ride with the boy tomorrow morning.

It was really hard to leave yesterday when the flakes kept getting fluffier and fluffier and the conditions kept getting better. With 5" more fresh on top of already good conditions today is probably great. If the forecast goes as John Dee is suggesting, this upcoming weekend just might be awesome up there.

Maybe someone else can chime in and tell the story about what we did and all that. For now, I'll just post up a pic of Undercover showing you what the conditions were like.

Thanks Rick for inspiring us to have an awesome weekend.  We are already talking about heading back up to Mt. Boho on 1/10.
You are welcome. I'm glad you two had a good time.

Wow...nice pow!

We never made it over to the Kee...thankfully, the snow that fell on Christmas Day and the day we drove up there saved the trip for us...the rain melted a LOT of what was in the Ishpeming/Munising area.  Put on almost 1000 miles last week on the sleds...I LOVE the UP.
