First Saw Wee Kee workday of 2010! Can't wait to get back out and see how the place has faired over the winter. The to-do list will be announced just ahead of the day, once we get final park district approval for the work and date. Check back for more info. If you enjoy the trails here, put in some time to give back and help make the place even better. We really need the extra hands.

Meet up will be at 9am, location tbd. We'll go over the day's work and head into the trail by 9:15.

Have to cancel. Unless you like slipping your way up every climb it's not gonna be fun. Next one's in a week.

We have a green light for the 3/21 workday! We'll meet at the first lot by 9am and split into two groups. One will reinforce/top cap some past armoring jobs on Wildcat. The other will do some deberming and erosion control on the western half of Anaconda.

Nothing gets you in touch with a trail like working on it. So let's start off the riding season with a good TLC session! See you there!

Hey All,

I've been a bit MIA, but I'm planning on doing the trail workday. Since this will be my first time doing trail work I haz a few questions.

What to bring? I have plenty of shovels(both flat and spade), rakes, hand tillers etc, basically anything to keep my garden up.

What to wear? I'm assuming this is self explanatory, but I didn't know if I should bring riding gear.

Bring my bike? Kinda goes along with the previous question.....do we ride after we do the trail work, assuming its dry enough.

Beer? obviously an important part of any manual labor job

Any thing else I should know about trail work days? I've actually never been to the Saw Wee Kee trails. After living in the city for the past 4 years, I mostly rode my road bike. Ohh how I miss the dirt. It will feel great to get the Stumpy out more this year. Anyways, looking forward to meeting some new people as well.

Welcome to the party, if you call Dominic's chain gang a party that is.

Dress weather appropriate, keeping in mind you're going to be moving around a lot and dare I say, working up a bit of a sweat. Layers are key.  Don't forget gloves and boots are a really good idea.

CAMBr has all the tools we will need. but thanks for the offer.

You can bring your bike, might it might be too wet to ride.  During the riding season, some ride ride before and others after, so yep, bring your stuff for sure, during the season.

Beer is up to you but do bring an after work beverage  We do try to have food, but sometimes if its a really small group, we blow that off and drink lunch.

All in all it's a good time and you really get to know the trails.

See ya there.

Welcome to the party, if you call Dominic's chain gang a party that is.

There's free drinks! I'd call that a party. Well, as long as you don't mind wading into the ponds to get it. And when you ride Gnat Catcher in the spring, there's free snacks too!

Captain, I recommend long pants and hard soled boots for the workday. We use shovels and loppers a lot, but also pulaskis—a tool that's part axe part heavy duty hoe. So the boots make sure your feet don't take any damage from a bad swing. Also leather work gloves to keep blisters away (they're a couple bucks at Menards if you don't have any). I'd also say to wear these even in the summer.

Now, looking at the forecast there's a chance the weather won't be our friend on Sunday. Our rule is, if there's a light rain or the radar suggests a rain won't last then the workday goes on. If the rain is heavy and won't be stopping (i.e. if standing out there might actually be worse than spending time with your mother-in-law) then we pull the plug. Once we get working the temperature won't be an issue—I don't even feel cold in my fingers when it's in the 30s cuz I put those brown glove liners in my work gloves.

So check this thread on Sunday morning to see if we had to cancel. Otherwise, we'll get what we can done and ride if the rains head somewhere else.

The forecast I'm looking at says a chance of snow on Sunday morning!  How screwed up is that after a forecast of 67F on Thursday?

You know that time when you were little and your dad said he was taking you and your sister to his job? The one where he throws little bunnies into a pen of wolves? Well, canceling a workday is nothing like that. But it does hurt just as much.

It's gonna be sloppy and slippery out there, so working the ground is just gonna be a pain. Next one is one week off and we'll hope that one can go off as planned. Same to-do list as we had for tomorrow.
