About the Trail System
Overall the trails in Saw Wee Kee (SWK) Park provide a unique experience for the Chicagoland area. Starting as an old quarry, the trails mostly follow along the ridges created from the discarding of unwanted rock and gravel. This creates a system of trails that provide a lot of punchy climbs, loose rock, and excellent drainage. When other systems are muddy or too wet to ride, SWK will often be good to go!
While it is a small trail system, just over 8 miles, you will know you’ve worked if you ride the whole place! Think of it as interval training as each trail provides a new challenge to your bike handling and cardio. Local riders compare it to an amusement park and have given many trails theme park inspired names: Vertical Velocity, Wildcat, Anaconda, and Colossus.
The other nice feature is each trail in the park challenges you differently in each direction. Most trails run east to west with small rollers, steep climbs, fast descents, and tight twisting turns. While there is not a lot of elevation change here, the frequency and steepness of the climbs give you a great workout.
Oswegoland Park District has added many signposts in the park that will help you navigate the trails. Trailforks and MTB Project are also great resources as well as the map on the CAMBr and OPD websites.

⚠️ Important Safety Information
Along the boundaries of the park are two private areas to avoid:
• Hidden Lakes Campground – At the far west end near Colossus. Marked by fence and concrete barriers.
• Barber Greene Hunting and Fishing Club / Knollwood Gun Club – Along the opposite side of Colossus. Marked by purple painted wire gate.
DO NOT enter these areas from the bike trails. Entering is trespassing and extremely dangerous as no one expects you to be in the gun club areas.
Trail Etiquette
•Excellent drainage: SWK often rides well when other trails are too wet, but still check conditions before riding.
•Two-way traffic: Expect oncoming riders. Trails ride differently in each direction.
•Technical terrain: Loose rock and punchy climbs require focus and skill.
•Safety first: Keep your head up and ALWAYS wear a helmet.
